SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 7, 2007 – Springfield College freshman attack Joe Heney (Plainview, N.Y.) scored three goals and assisted on three other scores for a total of six offensive points as the Pride cruised past Pilgrim Lacrosse League-foe MIT, 12-2, this afternoon at Benedum Field.
The win improves SC to 3-6 overall on the season and a perfect 3-0 in Pilgrim action. The Engineers fall to 2-4 overall on its campaign and 0-2 in league play.
Pride attack Skyler Wiemokly (Amherst, Mass.) came off the bench to score three goals of his own, as the sophomore also added an assist. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Thibodeau (Somers, Conn.) also made a big contribution off the bench for SC, scoring twice. Other members of the Pride to score included; seniors Paul Voegeli (Cheshire, Conn.) and Adam Toutain (Sabattus, Me.); and Somers, Conn., natives, Chris Jez and Kyle Gable.
MIT senior attack Jonathan Stolmeier scored the first goal of the afternoon for the Engineers, as classmate Tyler Sorba added the other MIT score. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Ballentine was credited with an assist on Stolmeier’s goal. Senior goalkeeper Zach Brewer made 16 saves in net for MIT.
SC senior goalkeeper Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) notched his third victory on the season, making nine saves in 49 minutes (48:30) of action. The Pride will next play Bowdoin College at North Andover High School (Mass.) on Tuesday evening, April 10th, in a 7:00 p.m. start.
